Turning Voters Into Morons

advertisement

The Current Crisis
by R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.
Published 5/15/2008

WASHINGTON -- Readers of this column will recall that from time to time in covering an election cycle I have referred to a voting bloc that political analysts of more delicate sensibilities would rather not mention, to wit, the moron vote. It is a constituency composed of politically ignorant citizens who nonetheless feel very intensely about political issues once their respective demagogues have notified them of the issues, suitably transmogrified. The moron vote's rank and file might, in point of fact, not be morons at all. Some might be marine biologists or interior decorators or professors of romance languages, and in their chosen field they might be very knowledgeable. Yet when it comes to politics they are in the dark. They are very angry but still in the dark."

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

excerpt 2"We can all feel superior to these poor souls, if we are bereft of charity, but we might also feel a twinge of compassion for them. After all, they are not totally to blame for their ignorance. Most have been misled by their political messiahs, or should I say by their seducers? The fact is that in many elections clever politicians shamelessly prey on their supporters' insecurities and the gaps in their political knowledge."

First I want to say, that I am 53 years old White Male, No College, a 15 year Navy Veteran.
with that said, I am an American first, and a Democrat Second, and I thought we were in the 21st century now, and our Racial Barriers overcome for the most part, but more must be done Obviously !
I hear Democrats supporting Hillary, saying that they would not Vote for Obama, this is a travesty to think that A Democrat would actually Vote for 4 more Years of Bush's failed policies, and more of Economic Recession, and 4 more years of Our brave young Men and Women dying, 4 more years of Fuel going up, and lining the pockets of 2 big Oil men that are in the white house now. To think these so called Democrats would not Vote for honest Positive Change you can believe. For 4 Years of Bush's 3rd term political Party in McCain. Lets be clear here, Any Democrat that would Vote for McCain instead of our Nominee Obama, IS PURELY VOTING RACIST. I respect Hillary, but the times the world is facing right now, we need a candidate that will Unite, not only our wounded country, but unite our allies to regain our respect internationally, Bring our troops home Honorably, and refocus our attacks against Al-Queada, IN PAKISTAN, and AFGHANISTAN. For Hillary to say that Barack Obama, can not win support of hard working Whites, is totally false, unless those people are RACIST, and I personally cannot support her because she is causing further divide in our party, I understand her continuing to run her campaign, and don't think she should quit, or drop out, at the same time, it is wrong for her to destroy our other candidate at all cost to win, and make the party to divide further and make Obama unelectable in the General Election. For her to even say that, is because she has made it that way, Even though I am an Obama supporter now, if Hillary was to win the Nomination Legitimately, not by stealing it away, I would vote for her, I would vote for THE NOMINEE EITHER WAY, FOR MY COUNTRY, FOR MY PARTY, NUF said !
